Captain Tom was born and raised in Waterford, Connecticut and grew up fishing with his parents from the boat launch at Pleasure Beach. Like most career firefighters, Captain Tom moonlighted on his days off and could be found on the water. In the early 90’s he worked as a rod and reel commercial fisherman anywhere between Eastern Long Island Sound and the Northeast Canyons. In the summer of 1997, he started working as a deck hand on some of the premier charter fishing boats out of the New London area.

In 2000 he received his USCG 100 Gross Ton Master Captain License which allowed him to run the boat when the captains needed a day off. In 2001 the original M&M, named after Captain Tom's sons Michael and Mitchell, was custom built and delivered.  He then began and enjoyed running a successful small business for several years before having to shift priorities to put his rapidly growing family and career first.

During that time, M&M never stopped fishing. Recreationally, over the years they have proven to be a winning team! Captain Tom's wife, Bobbette, can fish with the best of them, and has placed first in several tournaments in the Ladies Striped Bass and Bluefish Categories. Captain Tom has proven the same and is traditionally a top 5 contender. In 2019 he and the boys put a catch together taking first place and were awarded King of the Dock. Over the years from the youth division to today, Michael and Mitchell have also made several trips to the stage. In 2021 they ventured out on Mitchell's 21 center console, fishing against over 50 boats and talented crews, and were ultimately crowned King of the Dock.
